Which MeshWX Pro version should I use?

Firmware and App are two different ways to run MeshWX Pro. Pick the one that matches your setup. You do not install or run both.

No separate computer + U.S. + Wi-Fi device? Choose Firmware.   •   Outside the U.S., no Wi-Fi, or want to keep normal node operation? Choose the App.
Firmware

Dedicated U.S. weather-alert device

MeshWX Pro Firmware runs directly on a supported Wi-Fi device, so no separate computer is needed.

Use Firmware if: You are in the United States and want a simple, always-on MeshWX Pro device.
No host computer The supported device handles alert monitoring and broadcasting by itself.
Wi-Fi required The device itself must have Wi-Fi so it can reach the U.S. National Weather Service.
Dedicated device While MeshWX Pro Firmware is installed, that device is used for MeshWX Pro instead of normal Meshtastic or MeshCore node operation.

App

International coverage or keep your normal mesh node

MeshWX Pro App runs on a separate computer and connects to your existing Meshtastic or MeshCore node over USB or TCP/IP. Your normal mesh firmware stays installed.

Use the App if: You live outside the United States, or you want capabilities the dedicated Firmware does not provide.
International coverage Use the App for Canada, the European Union, Israel, Australia, or the United States.
Keep normal node operation Your radio remains a normal Meshtastic or MeshCore node while the App connects to it.
No Wi-Fi on the node? No problem. The App can use a supported radio over USB serial or TCP/IP.

Choose Firmware when you want one dedicated device and no separate computer.

The Firmware runs directly on a supported Wi-Fi device in the United States. While MeshWX Pro Firmware is installed, that device is dedicated to MeshWX Pro instead of normal Meshtastic or MeshCore node operation.

1

Watch the NWS

The device checks the National Weather Service for active alerts in your selected counties.

2

Filter what matters

Warnings and selected watches are formatted for delivery over the mesh platform you selected during setup.

3

Broadcast over LoRa

The alert is transmitted over the Meshtastic or MeshCore network you selected during setup.

4

Reach the mesh

The warning travels node-to-node to users who may have no internet or cell service.

Firmware setup

Flash it once and let the device run on its own.

No separate computer is required after setup. Flash a certified device from desktop Chrome or Edge, finish configuration from your phone, and leave the device running as your dedicated MeshWX Pro broadcaster.

Open the MeshWX Pro flasher →
1

Flash a certified device

Connect a certified MeshWX Pro device by USB and install the Firmware from the web flasher.

2

Join the setup hotspot

The device creates its own Wi-Fi network so you can configure it from your phone.

3

Pick your mesh and counties

Select Meshtastic or MeshCore, choose your U.S. state and counties, configure the selected mesh, and enter the device Wi-Fi.

4

Save and run unattended

The device begins monitoring the U.S. National Weather Service and broadcasting selected alerts automatically.

How the App works

Your node stays a normal Meshtastic or MeshCore node.

The computer running MeshWX Pro App handles the internet connection and alert processing, then sends messages through your existing radio.

1

Run the App

Install MeshWX Pro App on Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or Docker.

2

Connect your node

Use a supported Meshtastic or MeshCore radio over USB serial or TCP/IP.

3

Select coverage

Choose the supported regional alerts and locations you want the App to monitor.

4

Send through your normal node

The App transmits alerts through the radio while its normal Meshtastic or MeshCore firmware remains installed.

Built for off-grid awareness

Whichever version you choose, the goal is the same: get alerts onto the mesh.

Firmware and App use different deployment methods, but both put official alerts onto Meshtastic or MeshCore so they can reach users beyond cellular coverage.

Meshtastic & MeshCore communities

Add automatic local weather warnings to the mesh people already use.

ARES and emergency groups

Give field users another path for official severe-weather information.

Rural and remote communities

Share warnings where cell coverage is thin but a local LoRa mesh can still reach.

Cabins, camps and base sites

Choose Firmware for a simple dedicated U.S. site, or the App when a host computer or different radio connection makes more sense.

Feedback from people running MeshWX Pro on their own mesh networks.

I got it running yesterday afternoon, then we had very bad weather last night and it worked like a charm. Thank you very much for coming up with this program for MeshCore. It's an outstanding program.
Steven P. MeshCore user
I dedicated a Meshtastic client node to county alerts on a channel that isn't used for chats, so you can get the alerts you want. MeshWX was very easy to install and run, and it does exactly what it says it does. I run it on the same PC as my SHARES Winlink system, so it runs around the clock. Excellent app for the LoRa community.
